Visual Design focuses on the building blocks of creative compositions. By learning about key compositional components you will be able to confidently apply these principles to many types of subjects. Feel more comfortable working with contrast, perspective, motion and textures in your photography. This course will help take your compositions beyond the ordinary and create photographs with impact.

This 4-week course is filled with stimulating lessons, engaging assignments and valuable critiques. Every week you will receive an illustrated lesson via email. The lesson will contain an assignment which you will have 10 days to complete. Then you will email your photographs to Corey for a critique. After each assignment you will send your photographs to be critiqued. Through the lessons and critiques, Corey will share the techniques he uses to highlight the strengths of a subject in a way that will make people stop and take notice of your photographs.

4 lessons, 4 assignments and 4 critiques, it all adds up to the opportunity for you improve your photographic craft.

The remarkable benefit of an online course is that you can take it from anywhere in the world...all you need is an internet connection!

Whether you are just beginning to learn about compositional techniques, or are looking to assert more control over the elements in your viewfinder, Visual Design will provide you with a new perspective on the elements you see every day. As you discover new subject matter you will have a better ability to capture it in a dynamic form.

Topics covered in the lessons include:

  • Shadows & Contrast
  • Shapes & Lines
  • Depth of Field & Lighting
  • Texture & Reflections
  • Framing & Perspective
Requirements:
  • A digital or film camera.
  • Knowledge of aperture and shutter speed.
Why are critiques important?
Receiving a critique of your work will help you to learn what makes a great photograph. Immediate feedback is one of the fastest ways to improve your photographs. Through these critiques, you will find out how to improve your image while it is still fresh in your mind. You can then apply what you've learned the next time you're out photographing. The comments directly address your photographs. They're not general statements about what makes a good photo. Besides providing an honest appraisal of your work, you'll receive tips and insights for how to effectively use design elements in your photography.
