Macro Photography delves into the intimate world of the details found all around us. Almost anything can become a fascinating subject when you look closer. Textures, patterns and shapes pop out; lines, space and balance take on greater significance, they become the primary elements in your composition. Macro gives you the ability to create an intimate portrait of a small subject, or an abstract image that loses any connection to reality. This course will teach you how to effectively use depth of field and control lighting, as well as how to create simple yet compelling compositions. It's a whole new world when you work on the macro level!

This 4-week course is filled with stimulating lessons, engaging assignments and valuable critiques. Every week you will receive an illustrated lesson via email. The lesson will contain an assignment which you will have 10 days to complete. Then you will email your photographs to Corey for a critique. After each assignment you will send your photographs to be critiqued. Through the lessons and critiques, Corey will share the techniques he uses to turn details into photographic art.

Requirements:
  • A digital or film camera.
  • Compact cameras should have the ability to focus down to 1-2 inches in the macro mode.
  • SLR owners should have one of the following so you can get close to your subject:
    macro lens, extension tube(s) or screw-on close-up lens (diopter).
  • Knowledge of aperture and shutter speed.
Why are critiques important?
Receiving a critique of your work will help you to learn what makes a great photograph. Immediate feedback is one of the fastest ways to improve your photographs. Through these critiques, you will find out how to improve your image while it is still fresh in your mind. You can then apply what you've learned the next time you're out photographing. The comments directly address your photographs. They're not general statements about what makes a good photo. Besides providing an honest appraisal of your work, you'll receive tips and insights for how to strengthen your close-up compositions.
