This workshop is designed for photographers of all levels who want to improve the quality of their images as they photograph the natural world. Through presentations and photography sessions, participants will improve their photographic knowledge and gain new skills. The workshop will focus on techniques for capturing images of plants, landscapes and wildlife. We'll discuss how to use design element such as lines, shapes and color to create eye-catching compositions. Equipment and techniques for close-up photography will also be covered. Since half of the time will be spent in the field, Corey will be able to work with participants individually to answer questions, solve problems and offer insights. This workshop is open to both film and digital photographers.

Participants should have a working knowledge of their camera.

Huntley Meadows Park is tucked away in a residential area of Alexandria. With meadows, woods and an extensive freshwater wetland there are many photographic opportunities, including abundant wildlife. The trails and boardwalk make the park easily accessible. The boardwalk takes you across the middle of the wetland, allowing you to be closer to the plants and wildlife.

Each session will start indoors: an illustrated lecture at the first session and a photo critique to begin the second session. Afterwards we'll head out to photograph, exploring the park in the warm light of the late afternoon. The outdoor photo sessions will take place during the late afternoon/early evening. This means we'll be photographing at one of the prime times of the day. While photographing you'll receive individual attention from Corey. He'll be available to answer questions and provide feedback and suggestions about composition and subject selection. The critique will give you the opportunity to learn from your photographs as well as see how other participants approached similar subjects and scenes.
