St. Michael's and surrounding areas offer the opportunity to photograph marinas, boats, working harbors and marine scenics. The Maritime Museum, Tilghman Island and Oxford all offer great subjects for this workshop on Maryland's eastern shore. Also, wildflowers are blooming this time of year. From gorgeous sunrises and sunsets over the water to textures, details and reflections, there's a lot packed into this area!

Schedule
Workshops run from Thursday afternoon through Sunday morning.

Thursday
At 4pm we'll meet for an orientation, discuss the schedule, have an instructional presentation and answer questions.

Friday & Saturday
Friday and Saturday will be a combination of going out to photograph and learning from presentations and critiques. In general, we'll be out photographing from sunrise to mid-morning and again from late afternoon until sunset. The exact shooting schedule and locations will depend on the weather and light. After the morning photo session there will be a break for you to download/review/edit images, or even take a nap! In the middle of the day we'll have classroom time for presentations, discussions and critiques. Presentation topics will include composition & technique, equipment, printing, image processing and organizing/managing your digital images. The critique sessions are great way to learn how your images can be improved, as well as see how other people photographed the same location. Having critiques during the workshops allows you the opportunity to apply the feedback and try new techniques the next time we go out to photograph.

Sunday
We'll photograph at sunrise/early morning and will wrap things up by mid-morning. We’ll usually be done by checkout time at the hotel.

The days will be long, but rewarding. The locations I've selected are places I know well. I'm familiar with where to find the best subjects and scenes, and how to take advantage of the weather and lighting conditions. We'll get to the right location at the right time to make the most of the light, land and subject.

Equipment
Participants are expected to be familiar with their equipment and understand the aperture and shutter speed functions of their camera. An SLR camera is recommended. Compact digital ("point and shoot") cameras are welcome. However, please keep in mind that I would be able to help mainly with composition techniques, since there are fewer exposure and creative controls with this type of camera. A tripod is strongly recommended. It's also suggested that participants bring a laptop to use for processing and editing images for the critiques.

Payment
The workshop price is for instruction only. It does not include food, lodging, transportation, incidental expenses, etc. A $200 deposit required to hold your place. The remaining balance is due 45 days prior to the start of the workshop.

Discount: Receive 10% off for attending multiple location workshops during the same calendar year (discount not applied to first workshop, only subsequent ones). Applies to workshops in Charleston, St. Michaels, the Smoky Mountains and Canaan Valley.

Lodging
While lodging is not included in the workshop fee, a block of hotel rooms is reserved for the workshop at a discounted rate (until 30 days prior to the start of the workshop). Participants make their own reservations. Hotel details and discount information will be provided upon registration.

Cancellation
Full refunds will be given if registration is cancelled more than 30 days before the start of the workshop. Exception: if the workshop was full, payment will only be refunded if the space can be filled. No refunds will be given if the registration is cancelled less than 30 days before the workshop.
